Your Backups Aren’t Protecting You Until They’ve Been Tested 

Most businesses assume their backups will work exactly as expected if disaster strikes. 

It’s an understandable assumption. Backup reports appear successful, storage looks healthy, and everything seems to be running in the background without issue. Until there’s a reason to restore your data, there’s very little to suggest anything is wrong. 

The problem is that a successful backup isn’t the same as a successful recovery. Unless you’ve actually tested restoring your systems and data, you’re relying on hope rather than proof. Backup testing isn’t simply an IT exercise; it’s how you confirm your business can continue operating when something unexpected happens. 

Whether the disruption comes from ransomware, accidental deletion, hardware failure, or software corruption, the businesses that recover quickest are usually the ones that have already rehearsed the recovery process. A failed restoration can have consequences well beyond operational disruption. It may trigger compliance investigations, expose the business to legal liability, or damage customer confidence if protected information can’t be recovered when required.
